Audio Books

The one thing I miss since taking up knitting and computer games is the amount of time left to read. I have always been an avid reader but lately I have found that by the time I fall into bed at night, I am normally too tired to read.

Last night I discovered that I can download audio books from the library. This is probably old news to you but this is new and exciting territory for me. I can have 9 a month, this is such great news and I don't even have to remember to return them.

After an hour and a half slog of figuring out the software, updating media players on my pc and figuring out what formats would play on my phone or mp3 player, I managed to download a book. I downloaded Echoes by one of my favourite authors Danielle Steele. Unfortunately the narrator's voice nearly drove me insane and it did not read like it would of in my head (make any sense?).

This morning I decided I would download a new book, but one by an author I had not read before so there were no expectations. I settled on The Law of Second Chances by James Sheehan. It is a courtroom drama about a man fighting for his life on death row. The narrator is much better and has an American accent which makes it sound like I am listening to the soundtrack of a movie.

I have listened to about an hour of the book and I am hooked. Now I can read and knit, and with all the garbage on tv at the moment, this is most excellent.

Until next time ...

  1. I have been borrowing audiobooks from the library for years now and they are great for multitasking! The audiobooks I listen to are on CD's,so I just pop the disc in the CD player and get on with whatever I am doing. As you say, they are ideal for listening to while knitting, but I also like to listen to them while I am cooking or doing the ironing.

  2. What a great idea. I had looked at audiobooks on itunes, but a lot of them were digital voices which I didn't like. I'd rather have a real voice!

  3. I have been hooked on Audio Books for about a year now and I just love them. I listen on the tread mill, in my car and at work. (They are great on the Tread Mill!) In the summer they are great for yard work too. A good narrator makes all the difference in the world! Enjoy!
